Thomas is 49 years old and originally from Aldergrove. He now lives in Crumlin with his wife Therese and their three young sons Bobby, Patrick, and Malachy.
He has been a member of Antrim Borough Council for the past decade and from 2003 he has served the people of South Antrim as their SDLP Assembly Member.
Thomas is currently a member of the Stormont Agriculture and Social Development Committees.
He has a special interest in farming issues as well as the challenges being faced by non-farming rural dwellers. In addition to this, he also has a strong commitment to urban regeneration and improving access to social housing.
Thomas is also a keen user and supporter of public transport and has campaigned heavily for the re-opening of the Antrim-Lisburn railway line and for better rural bus services.
As a GAA enthusiast Thomas is a big supporter of his local Club, St James' at Aldergrove and a committed campaigner for the development of recreational facilities throughout the constituency. Thomas is particularly committed to GAA youth initiatives which help pass on the tradition and passion for the game.
